    Teacher:

“BOUNDARY, n. In political geography, an imaginary line between two nations, separating the imaginary rights of one from the imaginary rights of the other.”

    ~ Ambrose Bierce
The purpose of the AP Human Geography course is to introduce you to the systematic study of patterns and processes that have shaped human understanding, use, and alteration of the Earth’s surface. You will employ spatial concepts and landscape analysis to examine human social organization and its environmental consequences. You will also learn about the methods and tools geographers use in their science and practice.
Human Geography is about the world as it is, and how it could be.  In a way it picks up where world history leaves off- although understanding history aids your analysis of spatial patterns. You will analyze why people live where they do and how they utilize space to express their cultural identity, worship God, acquire and maintain power, and make a living. You will develop your reading, writing and critical thinking skills as you grapple with some of the world's most difficult and pressing problems.
